Sarasota University Breaks New Ground as the First MACTE Accredited University, Unveils Innovative Programs for Future Educational Excellence

Charlottesville, VA – December 7, 2023, Sarasota University proudly announces its achievement as the first MACTE Accredited University, underscoring its dedication to providing top-tier Montessori education. The recognition by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) marks a significant milestone for Sarasota University, validating its commitment to excellence in adult learning. Dr. Rebecca Pelton, President of the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education, stated “We are very pleased that Sarasota University is the first university to receive full institutional accreditation from the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education!”

Sarasota University’s MACTE accreditation opens new horizons for the institution and its community. As the university continues to evolve, it remains dedicated to providing quality education that transforms lives. Prospective students, current learners, and alumni can anticipate an even more enriched educational experience, rooted in the principles of Montessori education and backed by the credibility of MACTE accreditation. To share the excitement and provide more information, Sarasota University will be hosting virtual information sessions on December 15th at 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET. These sessions are tailored for individuals interested in learning more about the university and its programs.

Tim Seldin, member of the Board of Trustees stated, “It’s been our dream for generations to see the creation of a Montessori institution of higher learning. We’re so proud of Sarasota University, on its recognition as the first MACTE-accredited Montessori university.

“We believe this is an important milestone in the development of Montessori education around the world. While there have been many Montessori programs that have been part of institutions of higher learning, this is the first that is founded on and committed to Montessori philosophy, values, and methodology. Our vision is not only generations of fine, Montessori educators, and school leaders, but the development of a center for new and expanded Montessori research and program development innovation, as well as continuing to ensure the legacy of fully implemented Montessori practice.”
