CGMS Graduate Publishes Children’s Book

January 11, 2021 by Rachel Kincaid Leave a Comment

Bethany Ann recently published Big Feelings, a book for children about coping with strong emotions.

“After completing the Early Childhood Montessori Certification (ages 3-6) at The Center for Guided Montessori Studies in 2018, the view I had of children was forever changed. Realizing their innate abilities and gifts by observing them really opened my eyes to how much we can learn from them and how much respect and admiration is due to young children, though often overlooked outside of the Montessori world.

“Working with children now has become more than a job but almost like a spiritual practice because I feel they are often teaching me and showing me many things. I am forever thankful to the amazing CGMS instructors who reinvigorated my passion for education. The support and community that is continually provided by CGMS has been really amazing, and I love that we are still connecting through Facebook three years later!

“The other thing that stayed with me from my training was the way Montessori gives lessons on practical life or peace with just as much importance as it does math or reading. With this in mind, I really wanted to make a book to help young children when they are feeling overwhelmed by their emotions. As an adult, I am continually seeing tips and tricks to cope with anxiety but I see it much less for young children. Often adults forget that young children are also struggling to cope with their own feelings at different times, especially amidst the chaos of the past year.

“I wanted to bring a technique many people use for mindfulness in a straight forward way that young children could understand. I hope Dr. Montessori would be proud of it. My book is called Big Emotions by Bethany Ann and is available on Amazon both in print and an ebook format. I hope it can be a special book for our young souls with big emotions that are in our classrooms and lives.”
