Upper Elementary Co-Lead Teacher in Williamsburg, Virginia, US

Williamsburg Montessori School (“WMS”) is seeking applications for a full-time Upper
Elementary Co-Lead teaching position.  WMS’s Upper Elementary Program serves children
ages 9 through 12 in the Historic Triangle (Jamestown, Williamsburg, Yorktown) mere blocks
away from the Colonial Williamsburg, the College of William and Mary, and downtown
Williamsburg. Located between the Richmond Metropolitan Area and Hampton Roads, WMS
is close to rivers, marshes, beaches, museums, and more. WMS is an independent,
coeducational school which provides high-fidelity Montessori education to 150 students
between the ages of 18 months and 14 years in Williamsburg, Virginia. WMS is a vibrant
community committed to the highest standards of Montessori practice, professional
excellence, and effective family partnerships.

The ideal candidate is a kind, positive individual who embraces collaborative team teaching,
looks for opportunities for growth, and masterfully builds relationships with teaching
partners, students, and the school community. Applicant must have a MACTE accredited
credential, a commitment to building long term relationships with students, parents, and
colleagues plus a desire to learn and grow as a teacher.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Include
– Co-teaching with an experienced Upper Elementary AMS-credentialed teacher.
– Direct students’ academic, social, emotional, and physical activities in a prepared
Montessori environment that supports and challenges the whole child.
– Develop a warm and positive rapport with students.
– Protect the privacy, peace, and working environment of the classroom community at
all times.
– Develop and implement new curricula aligned with Montessori pedagogy, theory, and
principles as needed.
– Oversee the safety and physical well-being of the children at all times.
– Maintain an orderly environment in good aesthetic condition. Modeling for the
students how to share this responsibility.
– Maintain curriculum planning, observational and academic records, including progress
reports.
– Manage classroom behaviors and implement peace education.
– Maintain written records of all parent meetings, phone calls, emails, etc.
– Prepare a weekly message to parents.
– Hold two family conferences during the school year and provide on-going
communication to parents as needed.
– Proactively initiate discussions with parents in the early stages of issues.
– Attend staff meetings, parent education, school functions.

– Attend and seek out opportunities for professional growth and development.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum:  Upper Elementary (9-12) credential
Preferred:  Lower and Upper Elementary (6-12) credential
