Social Emotional Learning Support in New Haven, CT, US

Elm City Montessori School, launched in August 2014, is New Haven’s first public Montessori school. We are committed to actively building an Antibias Antiracist school community. We are seeking Student Support to support us in building a vibrant and healthy learning environment. We serve over 300 students between the ages of 3 and 14.  New Haven, Connecticut is a thriving arts, cultural, and education hub, located in the center of a growing community of public Montessori schools.

About the Position: This is a 10-month position. This person reports to the leaders of the SEL Team.
Required Qualifications:  Applicant must have experience working with young children in a school, clinical or childcare setting, and have a firm understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.

Preferred Qualifications:  The ideal applicant:
has B.A. or other degree/certification  in related field
has experience specifically in early childhood and/or working with students with challenging behaviors
is well-organized, positive, proactive, and motivated
has strong interpersonal and communication skills, and works well with diverse students and adults
Bilingual (Spanish/English).

Areas of Responsibility
Classroom Support
Responds to classrooms as needed to support students
Collaborates with staff to plan consistent supports for students
Communicating and collaborating with the SEL Team throughout the day to meet the needs of students and classrooms throughout the school
Provides classroom coverage and support as needed

Student Support
Provides behavioral intervention and support for students in class
Processes with students to facilitate reflection and regulation
Works with students to build social emotional skills
Facilitates SEL circles with small groups of students
Monitors a safe space for students for de-escalation, reflection, and work
Communicates with families about successes and challenges at school

Other
Maintains record and documentation of work with students and families
Learns about and practicing Anti-Bias Anti-Racist practices in a Montessori setting
Engages with coaching by setting clear goals and receiving feedback
Participates in weekly professional learning with school team

Compensation: $30,000-$40,000, based on education and experience. Medical, vision and dental benefits available.
