The Montessori Foundation has been asked by our dear friends at the Khalsa Montessori School in Tucson, Arizona, to help them find their next Head of School as their founder and Head of more than 45 years prepares to retire. Celebrating 47 years, they are in search of a new Head of School beginning this summer.
Khalsa is a lovely and peaceful fully-implemented Montessori school set in the beautiful community of Tucson. All are welcome. The school values a diverse community and is committed to ensuring an environment that is fair, humane, and respectful.
Khalsa Montessori School is a non-profit that offers both a
tuition-funded private Montessori school program for infants through age four and a publicly funded charter school for age five through middle school. Its total enrollment is 350 students.
The school is a center of inspiration and support for Montessori
schools. It sponsors an AMS Montessori teacher education program

The school has been led by its founder, Nirvair Khalsa, right from the start. There is a strong leadership team and a supportive board and parent body. The faculty is skilled and stable. Among other things we appreciate about Khalsa are its peace education, sense of community, and commitment to wellness with an emphasis on social-emotional learning, mindfulness, and a healthy, vegetarian diet.
The school is searching for someone with the right mix of vision,
leadership, and ability to inspire and guide a wonderful learning
community.
Tucson is a perfect setting for anyone who loves the outdoors, a
moderate climate, and southwestern culture. Situated in the uniquely lush Sonoran Desert, with its dense population of plant and animal life, including the giant saguaro cactus, Tucson is surrounded by mountains that offer scenic canyons, pine forests and trails for biking and hiking. Tucson is a multi-cultural city and home to the University of Arizona, a vibrant downtown and arts district, and has been named by UNESCO as a City of Gastronomy.
As a charter school, the next leader must be committed to Montessori in the public sector and comfortable keeping on top of state reporting and other requirements.

education and leading in the Montessori way. Khalsa is a
family-friendly school.
The parent-teacher community organization is active and supportive. The next head will need the ability to listen, support, and collaborate with all stakeholders
The current Head will stay on for a year or so to support the new leader.
The school works closely with the Montessori Foundation, which will continue to be a source of guidance.
