Beacon Academy, a 9 through 12 coeducational day school, invites applications and nominations for the position of Head of School.

Beacon Academy offers an innovative and challenging education based on Montessori principles that places a priority on experiential learning, entrepreneurial thinking, and in-depth interdisciplinary studies. Beacon students will master the skills, knowledge, and habits of mind necessary to meaningfully contribute to a complex and diverse world with compassion and confidence.

Beacon Academy is a Montessori high school that brings together independent school best practices and challenging IB (International Baccalaureate) curriculum with independence, freedom, and a student-centered approach. Beacon Academy students experience a learning community that inspires self-motivation and personal challenge and celebrates intellectual, cultural, and socioeconomic diversity. Based in Evanston, Illinois, but using the entirety of Chicago as a classroom, Beacon Academy is home to approximately 200 students.

Beacon Academy pedagogy is based on the development of students’ sense of themselves as individuals who are also integral parts of their communities. Students are given the opportunity through both their required and elective coursework to build grade-level bonds and work with mixed-aged groups. Just as in the mixed-age classrooms of Montessori Early Childhood programs, this combination offers students space to navigate the new social, physical, and intellectual realities of adolescence with their cohort as well as by learning from older peers.
