Children's House Lead Guide in Brecksville, Ohio, US

South Suburban Montessori School is currently seeking a full time Children’s House Lead Teacher to join our team for the 2024-2025 school year. In this position you will create and maintain a safe, secure, and comfortable Children’s House environment based on Montessori pedagogy and consistent with Montessori principles for children aged 3-6. Your goal is to cultivate each child’s own natural desire to learn and to guide children toward self-reliance and self-sufficiency.

South Suburban Montessori School is dedicated to providing an authentic Montessori education to children between 18 months and 14 years. Founded in 1970, South Suburban is located just 20 minutes from downtown Cleveland in Brecksville’s beautiful Blossom Hill Complex.

Essential Functions:
•       Create and maintain a safe, secure, and comfortable Children’s House environment based on Montessori pedagogy and consistent with Montessori principals. This environment should emphasize the stimulation of each child’s natural curiosity as well as freedom to explore and choose. Oversee and guide socialization.
•       Organize and maintain an aesthetically pleasing, enticing and clean classroom. Prepare and develop a Montessori environment that supports the developmental needs of children. Adapt materials and information to the actual learners. Assure freedom of choice and appropriate levels of stimulation.
•       Support the academic, social, physical, and emotional development of students by adhering to best Montessori practices.
•       Collaborate with Head of School and parents to address disruptive, aggressive or inappropriate behavior.
•       Guide, influence, and train your Assistant in classroom protocol and environment. Evaluate performance and provide feedback.
•       Assure safety and security of all children during school hours of work, rest, and play.
•       Assess students and document and maintain thorough and accurate records.
•       Sustain positive relationships and regular communications with parents, colleagues and the Head of School.
•       Support marketing, retention and recruitment of new students.
•       Attend board, parent, and/or staff meetings as requested. Participate in special events.
•       Maintain continuing education requirements.
Specific Experience/Skills/Abilities:
•       In-depth creative, analytical, planning and teaching skills.
•       Communication skills: demonstrated ability to speak and write concisely and accurately, demonstrated ability to listen and process others’ points of view.
•       Strong leadership skills: coaching, training, team development, decision-making, and problem solving skills.
•       Computer proficiency: basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications.
•       Ability to maintain confidentiality of records, parent/child matters, and school business.

Special qualifications:  All prospective applicants must have Montessori credential for the Early Childhood level from a MACTE accredited Teacher Education Program, a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and preferably a minimum of two year teaching experience in a Montessori school environment.
