Montessori Doctoral Candidate Studies Teacher Retention

October 23, 2024 by Rachel Kincaid Leave a Comment

Martha Teien, MEd, Montessori Doctoral Candidate, UWRF, asks teachers and administrators to inform her data about teacher retention.

“Have you wondered about the lifespan of a Montessori teacher in a classroom?  Or have you wondered how many Montessori teachers are in Montessori classrooms teaching in the US right now?

“Have you been an administrator and wondered what the rate of return might be for investing in a person in Montessori training?

“All of these questions are hard to answer because the Montessori world does not have the data.

“Like Maria Montessori, I came from medicine.  In medicine, many decisions are made by analyzing quantitative data.  I have been secretly dreaming of the day I could examine data from a survey about the longevity of Montessori teachers and the variables that impact their decisions to stay or go.

“I need your help to do this.  If you are a Montessori teacher, please take 15 minutes to complete this survey.  If you are an administrator in a Montessori program, please share this survey with staff so they can complete this survey.  And if you are the head of a TEP, please, please share this with graduates of your program, so they can fill out the survey.

“I am collecting data for my dissertation in the  Montessori EdD at UWRF.  I am attaching a copy of the IRB approval from the university here:

“The survey is for Montessori credentialed teachers presently teaching in a Montessori classroom at the level they received their credential.  The platform is qualtrics and utilizing survey logic,  the questions will bring participants to the end of the survey if they do not meet the qualifiers.

“I am hopeful that you will complete this survey and then offer this survey to as many people as possible.  Co workers, peers, TEP cohorts, researchers…

“The directions and the consent is the first part of the survey.

Please let me know if you have any questions!  Let’s move Montessori Forward together. ♥️

Thank you,

Martha”
