Lower Elementary Teacher in Seattle, Washington

Bellevue Montessori School is seeking a dynamic Lower Elementary trained Teacher to start in February/March 2021.  Bellevue Montessori has been serving families on Seattle’s Eastside for 55 years and is proud to be in the process of being accredited by the American Montessori Society at our Elementary level (delay due to covid-19).  We have been successfully open for in-person learning since June 2020 without any exposure or transmission of Covid within our Elementary Campus, and are working to make sure our staff receive their vaccines as soon as possible.

We are looking for a positive individual who will provide an academically rich, engaging and respectful environment which meets the needs of each individual student. This position does have the possibility of extending through the summertime and next school year.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A Montessori Credential from a MACTE recognized training center appropriate to the Lower Elementary level

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Ability to relate to and inspire students on their independent educational journey

  • Experience leading a Lower Elementary classroom and establishing a normalized environment based on respect.  First year teachers with prior classroom experience will be considered.

  • Evidence of emotional maturity and stability

  • Strong personal communication skills and written communication skills

  • Technical skills that support recordkeeping (Google Classroom, Transparent Classroom) and parent communication

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

  • Willingness to complete standard childcare worker requirements: Infant/Child First Aid & CPR Training, MMR immunization, TB Test, Background Check & Fingerprinting, Food Handler’s Permit

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish a normalized Montessori prepared environment that meets the unique needs of the Lower Elementary student at the second plane of development.

  • Prepare materials, lessons and other needs necessary for the classroom in accordance with traditional Montessori philosophy

  • Attend all school meetings and school related functions

  • Establish and maintain good communications with parents through parent conferences, meetings, informal communication, emails, and the classroom newsletter each week

  • Demonstrate a growth mindset for professional and personal growth

We are open to hiring a first-year teacher with prior classroom experience and/or supporting a co-teaching model, and are an equal opportunity employer.
