Afternoon Assistant Teacher in Montessori Toddler or Primary Classroom

Purpose: To assist the Montessori teacher in providing a safe and nurturing learning environment where independence is encouraged and individuality is respected.

Our School: Kirkwood Children’s House is an AMS Accredited school for children ages 18 months through Kindergarten. We are located in Kirkwood, a suburb west of St. Louis, MO, on a beautiful three-acre wooded campus. Our building has large spacious classrooms, natural lighting from floor to ceiling windows, and an indoor climbing gym with climbing walls and an indoor tree house created using wood from our own campus. Our mission is to provide: “Natural education in a community of joy and peace.”

Key Responsibilities:

~To assist the toddler or preschool-age children as they wake up from nap time.

~To help the Montessori teacher serve afternoon snack.

~To supervise the children on the playground, in the indoor climbing structures, and during afternoon classroom work time to ensure they are safe and their needs are met.

~To follow the Covid-19 safety protocols and clean a portion of the classroom and school at the end of the day.

~To help provide a program consistent with the Kirkwood Children’s House mission, i.e. one that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual and social needs of both the individual and the group in our beautiful, natural setting.

~Consistent and punctual attendance is crucial.

~To assist the lead Montessori teacher and agree together on classroom tasks and maintenance responsibilities.

~To help move class furniture for set-up, clean-up and regular cleaning.

~To attend monthly staff meetings and attend professional development days 3 times a year.

~To observe all school policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

~To communicate a positive attitude and set a positive example for the children, your colleagues, parents, visitors, and the community at large.

~To maintain a positive attitude with respect to the children, other staff members, and parents.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $11.00 – $14.00 per hour

COVID-19 considerations:
Candidate must be vaccinated against Covid-19. Teachers and staff are expected to wear masks at all times while inside the school and possibly outside, too. A lot of cleaning and disinfecting inside the building throughout the day and at the end of the day.
