About Discovery:

Discovery Academy is a small independent and progressive school located in the heart of Big Sky, Montana. Big Sky is a quaint, but energetic and passionate mountain town with a large tourist population and small year-round community. Our community is the perfect place for the outdoor adventurer, with Big Sky Resort and Yellowstone National Park at your doorstep. Discovery Academy provides preschool-high school programming with roots in Montessori education. Our lower school (Early Childhood-3rd grade) is AMS accredited and believes in the Montessori philosophy which we demonstrate through our holistic and mindful approach to teaching.

Description:

Our ideal candidates are energetic, self-motivated teachers who are committed to academic excellence and character development within the Montessori framework.  Creativity and innovative ideas are embraced and encouraged.  Curriculum Development experience preferred. A candidate must have a willingness to collaborate with colleagues and communicate effectively with all members of the school community including families, students, and staff.  Additionally, the ideal candidate must demonstrate a willing flexibility to adapt to new ideas and a dynamic school culture.  We focus on creating a respect for self, others, and the environment as well as promoting student engagement in their learning and a growth mindset.

Qualifications:

MACTE approved Elementary certification, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.  A minimum of two years of prior Montessori or Elementary teaching preferred. Plan and implement a student-centered, Montessori core subject morning work period, as well as integrated thematic program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.  Other duties as assigned by Head of School, including but not limited to outdoor excursions, field trips, and winter snow sports.

Must be CPR/First Aid Certified or willing to obtain.

Experience in Nordic or alpine skiing and/or outdoor, experiential education preferred.

Position requires a demonstrated ability to:

  • Facilitate student learning across grade levels
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff
  • Embrace a Montessori, inquiry and project based-learning perspective
  • Target standards and rigor via lessons and assessment per grade level
  • Monitor student progress using fall, winter, and spring assessment tools and adjusting instruction accordingly for each student.
