Full-Time Montessori Lower Elementary Lead Teacher in Camden, ME, US

Seeking Full-Time Montessori Lower Elementary Lead Teacher at Children’s House Montessori School in Camden, Maine for the 2026-2027 school year. This position begins on August 17, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter, and includes two weeks of set-up and pre-service training.

The successful candidate will join a team-oriented Montessori school community that includes two toddler classrooms, two primary classrooms, and one lower elementary classroom. Children’s House serves approximately 75-100 students in a holistic, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment, in school year and summer programs. Children’s House is a member of the American Montessori Society.

Education and Training:
AMS/AMI or MACTE-accredited teaching credential at the lower elementary level and/or Bachelor’s degree in elementary education
Experience or willingness to be trained in: Positive Discipline, Health and Safety, and Nature Connection

Prior Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of related elementary teaching experience; experience teaching kindergarten a plus
Teaching outdoors in a traditional or non-traditional setting

Qualifications:
Genuine love of children and families
Values an inclusive, holistic and community-driven approach to teaching and learning
Excellent communication skills with children, parents and colleagues
Attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment
Demonstrate initiative, curiosity, and ability to “think outside the box”
High level of comfort with the outdoors

Role Expectations:
Prepare a high-fidelity indoor Montessori learning environment for:
The lower elementary program – in the mornings
Combined lower elementary and kindergarten program – in the afternoons and on Friday mornings/ Forest Fridays
Prepare Montessori curriculum for lower elementary and kindergarten students
Serve as the nature-based specialist for the toddler and primary classrooms weekly, with lower elementary students serving as mentors to younger students
Strengthen community partnerships to broaden the lower elementary and kindergarten program (e.g. library, Page Gallery, Bella Point, Merryspring, Salmon/Trout partners, etc.)
Create a system for daily observations and recordkeeping of skills, learning activities, and developmental milestones
Communicate concerns or observations regarding child development – in areas of social emotional, academic, and motor skills – with parents and staff
Complete student progress reports
Lead parent teacher conferences
Ensure curriculum goals are met in regard to both Montessori teaching and learning standards
Develop a deeply reflective teaching practice that challenges and promotes continuous growth and learning as a teacher and person
