State Licensing and Regulatory Compliance Specialist in remote, US
Part-Time Independent Contractor | Remote
The Center for Guided Montessori Studies, Inc. (CGMS) is seeking a detail-oriented licensing and regulatory compliance specialist to support our Montessori teacher education programs. CGMS provides accredited, blended teacher training that combines online coursework with in-person residential training sessions conducted in multiple states.
In this role, the licensing and regulatory compliance specialist will spend up to 10 hours per week helping CGMS to understand and to comply with the licensing, authorization, and regulatory requirements of each state in which we conduct residential training. The successful candidate will research state requirements, prepare licensing applications, manage renewals, and maintain organized compliance records and deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Research state laws, regulations, agency guidance, and licensing requirements applicable to CGMS programs and residential training locations.
- Identify whether CGMS must obtain authorization, registration, licensure, an exemption, or another form of approval in each state.
- Communicate with state licensing and regulatory agencies to clarify requirements and application procedures.
- Prepare and submit initial license, authorization, registration, and exemption applications.
- Manage annual renewals, reports, fees, and other continuing compliance obligations.
- Maintain a state-by-state regulatory matrix, compliance calendar, and supporting documentation.
- Track application status, correspondence, deadlines, and requested follow-up materials.
- Help CGMS develop internal procedures for opening and maintaining residential training locations.
- Monitor regulatory changes and advise CGMS when new requirements may affect its programs.
- Coordinate with CGMS leadership, academic staff, accreditors, and other stakeholders as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with state licensing, regulatory compliance, state authorization, or government applications.
- Experience preparing state license, authorization, registration, or exemption applications
- Experience with private postsecondary education, teacher education, vocational schools, professional training programs, or distance education.
- Strong research, analytical, and professional writing skills.
- Ability to interpret statutes, regulations, agency rules, and administrative guidance.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and communicate clearly with regulatory agencies and CGMS personnel.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and shared tracking systems.
Compensation and Schedule
- Compensation: $25–$28 per hour, depending on experience.
- Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week on average.
- Position type: Part-time independent contractor.
- Location: Remote.
- Workload may vary depending on application and renewal deadlines. The contractor will generally manage their own schedule while meeting agreed-upon deadlines and participating in occasional virtual meetings.
