Primary Assistant Teacher in Annapolis, MD, US
Chesapeake Montessori School in Annapolis, Maryland is seeking a patient and compassionate assistant to work in the Primary Community for the 2026-2027 school year. The candidate will work with children ages 2.5-6 under the guidance of a trained AMI Montessori Primary Teacher, Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM. This is a 10-month role that follows our school calendar. This role also supports the napping program in the afternoon for the younger Primary children. We are looking for an enthusiastic, adaptable person with strong observational skills who is passionate about working with children in the Primary age group.
The Primary Classroom Assistant performs the following jobs, but is not limited to this list only:
Prepare the classroom environment daily, ensuring materials are in their place and are complete
Must be comfortable around, and willing to support, children in varying stages of bathroom independence. This includes changing wet or soiled clothing multiple times daily.
Interact with parents and co-workers in a warm, understanding, and respectful manner
Support the evolving needs of the children and the lead teacher with a sense of flexibility, as well as attention to detail
Communicate clearly and consistently with the lead teacher
Continually promote the development of independence in young children
Model grace, courtesy, and empathy for children in speech, tone, demeanor, and actions
Have a desire and commitment to learn about Montessori philosophy. Prior Montessori experience is preferred but not required. Must have a willingness to accept feedback, and an eagerness to learn and grow!
Compensation for this job begins at $20/hour. Additional benefits include paid time off, 403(b) matching, Health insurance, and Dental insurance.
