DESCRIPTION

As Lead Teacher, you will lead a classroom of up to 20 children ages three through five within a network of high quality, tuition-free, Montessori-inspired preschools in underserved communities. You will plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active Montessori learning experiences. You will create learning opportunities that support the cognitive, language, social, emotional, and physical development of every child. You will build relationships and communicate regularly with families to support each child’s development. In this role, you will support two assistant teachers or teachers in residence and report directly to the head of school.

You share our passion for the Montessori method and have honed your skills as an early childhood practitioner with expertise in child development, strong communication skills, and experience working with students and families in low-income areas from diverse backgrounds.

LOCATIONS AND START DATES

We anticipate opening a number of new schools in partnership with local community organizations in the fall of 2021. Most of these schools are likely to be in the Seattle-Tacoma metro area. One or more may be in greater western Washington state, including on the western side of the Olympic Peninsula.

Our new preschools are likely to open in two different cycles in the fall of 2021 with some opening in September with an employee start date in July and others opening as late as November with an employee start date in September. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two or more years of experience teaching children from infancy through third grade with strong outcomes
  • Ability to meet all credentialing criteria for lead early childhood teachers in Washington state (with the equivalent of 30 college quarter credits in Early Childhood Education OR holding a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Special Education)
  • Ability to meet all additional training and eligibility requirements of Washington state, with required documentation uploaded into the MERIT system prior to start of employment
  • Experience monitoring and maintaining accurate records on the progress of individual students
  • Demonstrated personal commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and experience working across lines of difference

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Primary diploma from an AMI, AMS, or MACTE-accredited institute
  • Experience teaching or guiding students in a child-led learning environment (i.e., Montessori, Reggio, etc.)
  • Experience working with children and families in low-income areas
