Lead Upper Elementary Teacher in Brevard, North Carolina, US
This position will begin in the summer of 2024 and will be leading a multi-age classroom of 4th through 6th graders. The lead teacher should be interested in playing an integral role in growing Mountain Sun Community School’s Upper Elementary program, as this class will be our second Upper Elementary section. The Lead Teacher will work closely and collaboratively with the current Upper Elementary Lead Teacher and Director of Learning to continue to build the program. The curriculum is holistic and experiential; honors, attends to, and nurtures this age and stage of childhood; and utilizes the natural environment and our community setting. Smaller class sizes allow for dynamic, project-based, and creative teaching. The lead teacher should have expertise in several of the Upper Elementary subject areas and be excited to lead multi-day excursions into outdoor and urban environments.

The lead teacher must share our desire to advance the school’s values and mission and be able to incorporate those philosophies into curricular activities. The ideal applicant will be a creative, talented and dedicated teacher, a team player, and possess excellent classroom management and communication skills. Candidates should have a commitment to and knowledge of the development of the whole child. They should have experience practicing Positive Discipline techniques and guiding students in peaceful conflict resolution.
